2 Volumes. No edition stated but presume First. Volume 1 (1865) - Polypodium, Allosorus, Gymnogramma, Polystichum & Lastrea. Containing descriptions of twenty two species and three hundred and eighty four varieties of British Ferns, with thirty seven coloured plates and three hundred and seventeen wood engravings. 348 pp. Volume 2 (1867)- Athyrium, Asplenium, Scolopendrium, Ceterach, Lomaria, Pteris, Adiantum, Cystopteris, Woodsia, Trichomanes, Hymenophyllum, Osmunda, Ophioglossum & Botrychium. Containing descriptions of twenty eight species and nine hundred and ten varieties of British Ferns. With forty two coloured plates, and five hundred and ninety two wood engravings. 492 pp + errata. Spectacular!! Refurbished by Paul Delrue and bound in mid green goatskin leather with endpapers, silksewn head bands, rounding and backing, made millboards, half binding with cloth sides, blind tooling, raised bands, lettering in real gold, four gold lines etc. A truly magnificent production. Volume 1 & 2 have an ink dedication on the introduction page and some very minor foxing at the front and rear first two pages but very minor with some browning from the plates to the blank sheets opposite the plates. Also included are two sheets of notes in Welsh on amongst other things Woodsea ilvensis - from Isle of Elva and lots of other plant names, plus a postcard with some very neat handritten notes on fronds found at Col D'Aspin plus the actual fronds themselves.
