Spine, gilt titles. Internally, engraved title page with woodcut of the Menai Straits, (2), 20 pp, [32] descriptive text, 26 leaves of plates, (52 views, engraved on steel), with tissue guards, new endpapers, some minor offsetting throughout. Gastineau, landscape painter, who throughout his career had portrayed a familiar round of architectural subjects and attractive views of the home counties, the southern coast, Yorkshire, Scotland, and Wales. From 1829, however, he did branch out, showing continental scenes following visits to Italy, Germany, and Switzerland, some of which were said to have taken place in the company of his friend J. M.
