In contemporary half green morocco, green cloth boards, corners & edges lightly bumped & worn, gilt tooling. Spine, raised bands, gilt tooling & titles, edges rubbed. Internally, second edition, with Branch frontis, plates with imprints & signatures removed, a.e.g, 36 leaves, 2 title pages and 2 leaves of descriptive text for each plate (titles and text in both English and French - the French text in double columns) 18 hand coloured aquatint plates. The English & French text leaves watermarked J Waterman 1822 whilst the coloured plates are watermarked J Waterman 1824!. Complete, and with its own modern green cloth box with title to spine. The beautiful plates in this work depict picturesque scenery in a highly romantic style. Loutherbourg worked as a stage designer under David Garrick, was a member of the Royal Academy and befriended Gainsborough, each painting the others portrait in 1778.
