This being a 2nd printing of an extract from Barrington's Miscellanies which was first printed in 1770. Barrington, judge, antiquary, and naturalist, whose paper on Welsh castles in the first volume of the Antiquaries' Archaeologia in 1770 was the first of some twenty-four communications published in that journal on topics as varied as the history of archery, gardening, and card-playing in England, Caesar's invasion of Britain, and the history of the Cornish language. Though some of this work had lasting value, Barrington's enthusiasm as an antiquary was not always matched by his skill and accuracy. See ODNB for a full Bio.
