Owen, Church of England clergyman and antiquary, was a stubborn and cantankerous character, & was severely reprimanded by Lord Bulkeley and had to make a public apology to the bishop of Bangor. The dean of Bangor made him perpetual curate of Llanfihangel Ysgeifiog and Llanffinan in November 1790, and he was given the rectory of Mellteyrn with Botwnnog in October 1800.
