Churchyard's career is remarkable for its indefatigability in the face of continual poverty and disappointment, and the small degree of financial security he earned at the last was scant reward for so much effort on the margins of two careers. His poems and military exploits still attract attention, though nothing like enough to have satisfied Churchyard himself. (ODNB).
