First edition, small quarto, thirty eight hand coloured lithographed caricatures, including the frontispiece and vignette title, on white, blue, grey, green, and buff paper as issued, one plate is dated February 1835, the remainder predate the title, twenty five plates have the imprint of IB Brooks, eleven that of W Soffe. Contemporary half red roan, ruled in gilt, over drab boards, smooth spine, decoratively tooled and lettered in gilt, neatly re-backed, with original spine expertly laid down, some small neatly repaired tears, mainly to edges. Overall, an excellent copy of this extremely rare and amusing series of plates, six of which depict horses and their riders.(236*191 mm). (Abbey Life 390. Schwerdt p38). This collection contains twenty one of the twenty seven plates listed in Schwerdt and nineteen of the twenty seven plates listed in Abbey. Some of the plates not in Abbey or Schwerdt include: "Sporting Characters"; "I'll bet ye'r half a crown I hit that board once in ten shots...."; "Father says he shan't sarve ye'r with no more beer".
