A comprehensive survey of the fauna of the Arctic and sub-Arctic world, including northern Europe, Asia, and North America. Pennant aimed to collect, organize, and evaluate existing knowledge rather than rely solely on personal observation. The work draws on explorers' accounts, travelers' reports, museum specimens, and correspondence with other naturalists.
