First edition, early issue, with some plates watermarked 1828 and 1829, folio, letterpress title, and forty two hand coloured etched plates, some heightened with gum arabic. In contemporary half dark green morocco over ripple grain olive cloth, spine with gilt bands and lettering, light brown endpapers, spine tips expertly repaired, cloth sides slightly spotted, marginal tears on eighth and twenty fourth plates (not affecting lettering of image) neatly repaired, evidence of book label removal to fpd. An Excellent example in a contemporary binding. (329*226 mm). (Mellon/Podeschi 136. Scherdt I p17-18. Siltzer p72. Tooley 36). This book was published in 1830. The humerous text is etched on the plates, which were originally issued serially in seven wrappered parts from 1827-1830. The letterpress title-page and publishers issue binding make a book out of what would otherwise be an assembly of prints (Mellon/Podeschi). First issued in upright folio. A fire consume part of the stock, and the plates were reissued in oblong folio (Tooley). The draftsmanship is good, the colouring vivid, and the inscriptions on the plates are humerous. No copy in Brit. Mus. (Schwerdt). Plates depicting humorous equestrian and fox-hunting incidents!
