In small oblong quarto half green morocco over green marbled boards (by Orrock & Son), gilt tooling, edges rubbed. Spine, gilt tooling & titles, edges rubbed, worn along joints. Internally, engraved titlepage with hand coloured etched vignette, followed by 16 hand coloured etched plates (1 folding), each accompanied by a leaf of descriptive text, original paper label bound in at rear, green marbled endpapers, armorial bookplate to fpd (Glen Tanar), t.e.g., remainder uncut, faint damp staining in the upper margin, a few text leaves with tiny marginal tears, plates watermarked 1802, text watermarked 1806. A noteworthy point about the book is that the title and the idea of the illustrations seem to have inspired Rowlandson, whose Miseries of Human Life appeared, a year later, in 1808 (Martin Hardie).
