Rollicking and rare social spoof by Egerton. First edition, oblong quarto, hand coloured engraved title page and twelve hand coloured aquatint plates after Egerton (watermarked 1822), modern antique style mottled calf, covers ruled in gilt, red morocco label, lettered and decoratively tooled in gilt on front cover. (350*261 mm). (Abbey Life 287. Colas 937). Rollicking and rare social spoof by Egerton, only the second copy we have ever see - the first in boards. There is a variant issue with the imprint of Thomas McLean on the title page. Both the Abbey and Colas collations (copies on boards) agree with the above: engraved title plus twelve plates. Curiously, these plates were later issued in an ever rare compilation entitled The Melange of Humour (nd) along with plates by Henry Alken and others.
