First edition (first issue?), oblong quarto, letterpress title page and six hand coloured soft ground etchings by Alken depicting 18 thoughts, quarter red morocco over marbled boards, burgundy gilt morocco cover label. The plates have been sized to the printed borders and mounted on later paper, with publishers details, titled and dated 1823-25. Tooley describes the British Museum copy with eight plates, but points out that the publishers own advertisement for this work calls for six plates only. From this we assume that there may have been two issues, the second issue with an increased number of plates (355*261 mm). (Tooley 39. Siltzer p70).
