Internally, half title, viii, followed by 35 leaves of descriptive text, each leaf accompanied by 2 plates (1 plate with no lettering, & 1 plate with lettering & date 1823), for a total of 70 plates (only 35 called for), marbled endpapers, t.e.g., remainder uncut, some occasional light edge browning & spotting, engraved by Edward Finden after Captain Batty. Text leaves watermarked J Whatman Turkey Mills 1822. (301*223 mm). Wales was the subject of one of the earliest books with steel engravings... The art historian Samuel Redgrave thought highly of him (Batty) his industry was great, his works carefully and truthfully drawn, his architecture correct in proportion and outlines and his merits as a topographical draftsman deserves recognition.
