The work is an English translation of a monumental work on North & South America by Dutch writer Montanus, De nieuwe en Onbekeende Weereld, with considerable additions on New England, New France, Maryland & Virginia, compiled mainly from English sources. It includes a short section on 'New Netherland, now call'd New York', with accompanying map 'Novum Belgium quod nunc. Nov. Jorck vocatur'. Other maps include Maryland, Southern Virginia and Florida, Jamaica and Peru. This copy is with the plate 'Arx Carolina' at p.205 as called for, but does not include the map 'Barbados', not mentioned in list of plates but sometimes present. Provenance: Nath. Cholmley Esq.
