Under Ground is the direct ancestor of Wonderland, but they differ in important ways: Under Ground is about half the length of Wonderland. Several famous episodes are absent or abbreviated, including: The Cheshire Cat (absent) The Mad Tea Party (absent) The Mock Turtle and Gryphon (absent). The story is more linear and dreamlike, less episodic. And the prose is simpler & more intimate, reflecting its origin as a story told orally to a child.
